Wanted Level (GTA IV)

Police stars, LCPD response, and NOOSE escalation in GTA IV story and Online.

Overview

GTA IV uses a six-star wanted ladder. Early stars bring LCPD cruisers; higher stars escalate to NOOSE and heavier citywide pressure. The system applies in story mode and influences GTA IV Online freeroam pursuits across Liberty City and Alderney.

Response tiers

| Stars | Typical response | | --- | --- | | 1–2 | LCPD patrol response | | 3–4 | Sustained pursuits, air units more likely | | 5–6 | NOOSE and maximum city heat | Safehouses and certain mission scripts clear stars when you enter.

Losing wanted level

Evade the flashing search zone, use subway tunnels and multi-borough distance, or reach a safehouse. Online sessions follow the same star UI with multiplayer tuning. Paying bribes is not the V/Online Lester service model; IV relies on evasion and safehouse clears.

Trivia

Hangman’s NOOSE and Cops n’ Crooks reuse NOOSE and LCPD fantasy in Online modes. See those activity pages for lobby-specific rules.
