Overview
Franklin Clinton is a young hustler from Chamberlain Hills and one of three GTA V protagonists. Early missions with Lamar Davis involve repossessing cars for Simeon Yetarian until Complications introduces Michael De Santa. Franklin becomes the connective protagonist: he works with Michael on Rockford Hills jobs, with Trevor on Blaine County chaos, and with Lester on assassination contracts that move the stock market.
Story role
Franklin’s arc moves from gang-adjacent repo work (Repossession, The Long Stretch) to national-scale heists. Stretch’s betrayal threads through Hood Safari and Lamar Down. Devin Weston’s car-theft strand runs from Daddy’s Little Girl through Pack Man. The ending missions place Franklin in the decision seat: Something Sensible, The Time’s Come, or The Third Way depending on player choice at Ending Choice.
Gameplay
Franklin’s special ability improves vehicle handling and reduces damage while driving, making him ideal for chase missions and Getaway Driver heist roles. He can purchase the Los Santos Customs shop on Route 68 after completing a related mission chain. In GTA Online, Franklin returns in The Contract update operating an Agency and hiring the Online protagonist for Security Contracts and Dr. Dre’s storyline.
GTA Online
After the story timeline, Franklin appears as a contact in The Contract (2021). Players buy an Agency property, run Security Contracts, Payphone Hits, and a multi-part story involving Dr. Dre’s stolen music data. Franklin’s role is mission giver rather than playable character in Online.
